Fabric Bottom Cadlesticks- An Easy How-To

Hi everyone! Ok, so my new goal for my blog is to bring you more productive post. I don't want this blog to be consumed by my Etsy shop or my new items. So here goes! I made the cutest fabric bottom crystal candlesticks last night. These candlesticks are easy and inexpensive to make. Give them as gifts for birthdays, Christmas, housewarming's, hostess gifts, or for any other occasion.

Here's what you'll need:

1. Modge Podge
2. Crystal or glass candlestick
3. Fabric, just enough to cover the bottom so this is great for using scraps. You could also use pretty papers as well.
4.Pen or something for tracing
5. Scissors
6. Sponge brush

First, you're going to start by tracing around the bottom of the candlestick on the fabric. Set your candlestick on top of the design you want and using your pen trace around the bottom until you have a complete circle.

Using your scissors cut out your circle.

Now you are going to turn your candlestick bottom up. Dab the tip of your sponge brush with modge podge and gently apply the modge podge to the bottom rim of the candle stick, make sure you've covered the whole rim. *If your candlestick has a solid base apply the modge podge all over.

You are now ready to place your fabric on the bottom of the candlestick. Lay your fabric circle with the patterned side facing up. Turn your candlestick over and gently place it on the fabric. Be sure to make sure fabric is touching the entire rim. At this point you may need to gently tug the fabric to each side to make sure it's nice and tight.

Finally, apply modge podge all over your fabric using your sponge brush. Don't be scared, lather it on nicely! Place your candlestick bottom up again until it is dry. Once dry you are good to go!

Here's what your finished product should look like! Sorry the pics aren't the BEST, but it is hard to photograph glass, lol. I hope everyone enjoyed this. This would also be a great craft project to do with kids.

My Fab Find!

You all know that I love thrift stores. I really really do. I love the excitement of not knowing what you may find. Of course, thrift shopping has it's off days. You may not find anything, particularly at the end of the week. I would say Friday, Saturday, and Monday's are not good days to go unless it's early on a Friday. Usually, because these are the days that most people go and things are picked over. How ever, during the week is a great time to go. My mom and I decided to check out one of our local thrift stores today and I couldn't be happier with what I found! Here's my find below!

These beautiful green glass compotes are most likely from the 70's. They all have a scalloped rim with a tear drop pattern around the top. I still can't believe I found this set. Of course they were a little dirty, but nothing soap and water couldn't handle. But, what you may not believe is the price I paid for these! The largest one was $3, the medium one $2, and the smallest one was $1! I know, amazing.

Hey my wonderful readers! I'm here to let you all know that as of Saturday June 13 I am now Mrs. Tony Brown. That's right, I got married! We had a beautiful (hot, but beautiful) outdoor wedding here in our hometown in Alabama. The ceremony was held outdoors on a pine plantation over looking a beautiful lake. I was an emotional wreck Friday and most of the day Saturday but I made it down the isle and said I do to the man I love. It was one of the greatest days of my life, the honeymoon was much needed, and now it's back to reality. Here are some pics of our day!Here comes the bride! You can't tell it here but I was crying like a baby, lol.

They look and even feel like a real rose, but they will last a lifetime! I'll be back in a few days with the regular routine. Hopefully I will have a give away soon!

An Easy How- To

Wow, it seems like it has been forever since I posted a how to. With all this wedding planning going on I've neglected my blog and to my readers I'm so sorry. I will try to post more, I promise. Well the other night I was bored and feeling crafty so I decided to go create something. I didnt have anything in mind until I saw a cardboard box sitting in my bed room on the floor. Here's what I made!
These cute and shabby letters are made to spell out "NEST", because our home is our nest indeed.
I decided to sit them atop this canvas painting of a hydrangea in my craft room.

Here's what you'll need to make these:

cardboard
scissors
acrylic paint
pen or pencil
box cutter (optional)

First, decide how big you want your letters. It's really up to the individual. Mine are about 4 inches tall. Next get your cardboard out and lay it flat on a table. Now draw an outline for your letters. Remember, they need to be block letters in order for this to work. After you have each letter as you want it you can begin to cut them out. You may want to go over your outline with the box cutter to make cutting with the scissors easier. After you have each letter cut out you can then paint them. Mine are painted different colors, but of course you can paint them any color you would like. The bottom of each letter should be flat so they can stand (prop) on something such as a shelf, mantle, window sill, or any other place you would like to put them. You can also make smaller versions to use for scrap booking or make larger ones and embellish them. Be creative and have fun!

Oh how I love pink. Which is probably why I chose it as my wedding colors. I actually chose to use light pink and a darker or hot pink. My fiance's groomsmen will boast coordinating black tuxes with light pink vest and ties and darker pink boutonnieres and my bridesmaids will wear dark pink dresses. I found my wedding dress yesterday! It's an amazing dress. So in celebration of my upcoming wedding this post is dedicated to everything pink. Here are some great "pink" finds.

Paper pom pom's are the new thing. You can find them in kits from Wal Mart to Michael's. Martha Stewart is even selling paper pom pom kits now. These dainty paper pom pom flowers are situated on a silver wires. These would add a girly touch to any room. I could really see them placed in a milk glass vase. Get Ready For Spring!

I just love Spring time. The breezy air, sunshine, birds chirping, flowers blooming, it is all so beautiful. Today in Alabama it was almost 80 and I felt like we skipped Spring and went straight into Summer. Here are some beautiful items from Etsy that are sure to get you in the mood for Spring. I know we all look forward to warmer weather!

My Exciting News

I like to keep this blog mostly art related, but from time to time I also like to share things that are going on in my life. As some of you know in Sept of 2007 I gave birth to my first child. My baby boy Noah Caiden came into this world via emergency c-section a month early. There was a blood clot in the placenta or umbilical cord, we'll never know for sure which one. Noah was a fighter, but his fight ended at 2 weeks old. As my fiance, my mother, and I looked on our baby left us for Heaven. He got a blood clot and it caused him heart failure. My mother and I have a long history or blood clots and both of us have had almost fatal blood clots. We have a hereditary blood clotting dissorder known as Anti-Thrombin III deficiency. Since Noah's death many many doctors have told me I should never try to conceive again since there's no medicine for what we have other than the standard blood thinners. Well a few days ago the FDA approved a new medicine for our dissorder that will be used for patients with ATIII during surgery and pregnancy. I am beyond excited about this. My moms boss told her and her co-worker to check out something the FDA had released about peanut butter and some how she ended up on the page about the new medicine. I know without a doubt God took her to that page. Of course I will have to sit down and talk to all (and that's a lot) of my doctors about this. But, we have hope again. All of our hope was never gone, but it surely wasn't all there either. I just wanted to share this exciting news with you all. Keep us in your prayers!

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about Origami. How ever, I do know that it is very delicate and beautiful. I wouldn't mind learning some origami myself. To be able to take a piece of paper and turn it into a bead, flower, butterfly, box or what ever else is a beautiful thing. I didn't realize that there is so much origami on Etsy until I decided to do this post. And the origami jewelry, WOW! Now that is amazing. Each magnet has been hand painted on the back side of the glass gem and the coated with a non-toxic sealer before the magnet is glued on. Each magnet is between 1-1 1/2 inches. This set includes 1 magnet in each color of lime green, yellow, orange, hot pink, and bright blue. I have 2 of these sets available right now. Happy 21st Birthday To Me!!

Yay! Today is my birthday. 21 years ago on this date my mother was in labor with me for hours and hours. She knew then I would be stubborn. I didn't want to come out. I'm sure it was nice and warm in there and I was probably sleeping, I enjoy sleeping now. It wasn't until the doctor stood over her and pushed her belly did I pop on out. Thanks moma, I love you! Tonight my parents are taking me out to eat, mom has made me favorite cake (strawberry with strawberry icing), tomorrow my fiance's taking me to the city for dinner and a movie, and then next weekend we will travel to Biloxi, MS for some gambling fun. I'm so excited. I shall sit back and take it all in since never again will I turn 21. Here's to me!

How did you get started in soap making?
My obsession with soap making started awhile back when me and my mom went to our local craft store. I decided to pick up a soap kit and try it out. I brought it home and immediately fell in love! I made soap as often as I could. I researched and read books which helped me learn more and more.

My favorite soap that I make is the Sweet Pink Sugar Cupcake Bar because it smells so good!

Never give up. All things are possible. Its definitely true that when one door closes another one opens but only if you think positive and make it happen. If something is not working, figure out how to change things so it does work. You really have to live and breathe whatever your passion is. You have to think outside the box. Promote in the forums always and keep working on pictures. Also the more you update your shop and relist items, the more attention it will get.

This Weeks Thrift Store Find

As you all know, I love shopping at thrift stores. It's an addiction. I find some of the greatest things! Just this past week while on a thrift shopping "adventure" with my mama I found these great vintage cups. They are so retro and fun. Since I don't use my vintage items, I shall find a place in my home for these, just not sure where yet since my kitchen is pretty much full.

How-To Easy Jar Embellishments

I love Mason and Ball jars, mostly because of their versatility. They are great to use not only for canning food, but also for storage of small items. They are great to store buttons, ribbons, pins, embellishments, pens, markers, q-tips, and so much more. I'm using 2 of the 3 shown to hold various ribbons and the other to hold my hang tags. Since my logo for my Etsy shop She's Chic Boutique (cms36451) is a crown I decided to embellish each jar with a crown of it's own. It was simple and easy. Just follow these easy steps!

What you will need:

1. stamp or stencil (unless your a great freehand artist)

2. paint pen (I use Elmer's paint pen's they're available at Wal-Mart and come in a variety of colors)

3. jars

4.ink pad

First make sure your jar is clean and dry. Dampen your stamp on your ink pad and gently press it where you want your image, being careful not to let it slide on the glass. If you mess this part up it's ok, just wipe off the ink and start over. Once you have your image where you want it shake your paint pen and press it down a few times on a piece of scrap paper so that the paint is flowing to the tip. Now gently, GENTLY, draw over your so that the paint covers where the ink was. Allow your paint to dry, it shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes. VOILA! You now have your very own embellished jar to store your things in!

Do the tops in the same process as the glass. Doesn't this give thes jars so much personality? I also love the fact that it's done in the crown that I use in my shop. It's a constant reminder of my shop which I love.

You can see that I did the tops on all jars yet only 2 on the glass and I embellished the other with a hang tag where my other hang tags are stored. The rust on the tops also gives this a great vintage feel.

A New Year,Turning 21, and Getting Married....Just Rambling

Ok, so it's a new year. Duh. Anyway, I just feel like rambling right now. I have so much to look forward to this year. To kick it all off, I turn 21 on Jan. 16th. Woop woop! To hell with the beer and liquor store, I'm going gambling. I love to play cards, black jack and deuce particularly. Since there's no casino close by this means a road trip. Which I always love. Anyone who knows me knows "Cassie loves to ride" and I do. Not sure who all is going, but on the 17th were going to a casino that's only about an hour and a half away. I'll try to hit the jackpot, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to under the influence of strawberry daiquiris or grey goose vodka and cranberry juice, my 2 faves. Then, sometimes in Feb. Tony is taking me to New Orleans, where I've never been and it's only like 3hrs. from us. Lame, I know. I've longed to go for so long and finally I'm going. And the biggest event of the century! I'm getting married in June! We've set our date for Saturday the 13th of June. How exciting!?!?! We're going this week to look at a possible location. I want an outside wedding, but not sure that will happen. We're going to look at a country club that sits on a beautiful golf course and has a great porch and pool. Everyone in the South loves a porch. Thank God our new house has 2. :) Anyway, I will stop rambling now. Comment or not. It doesn't matter, this post doesn't hold a whole lot of significance to most. I am planning to feature some Etsy artist this week. I may step outside of handmade and do a vintage post. Look for it soon! Happy Monday!

My New Years Resolution

Ok, so here I go again. Another year and the same old resolutions. Every year I make resolutions and I never follow through. Well, this year it's going to be different. Here are my resolutions and I would love to hear what yours are as well. Pendant above can be found in the Etsy shop of lpjewelry.

1.- A resolution to stick to my resolutions. Lol. I'm serious.

2.- Loose weight. Since I had my baby back in 2007 the weight has sort of lingered here keeping me company. Well, I'm tired of it. I want to be back to the size I was before becoming pregnant. The entire time I was pregnant I kept saying "I'm going to loose all this weight as soon as I have my baby." That didn't happen. I think I would have lost it had Noah not passed, but after his death I didn't really care. But, now I do. And I want more than anything to be back to the size I was when my fiance fell in love with me, but I want to do it for myself and I will!

3.- Quit smoking. Blah blah blah. I honestly enjoy smoking. Any smoker knows that smoking is enjoyable to those who do it. I want to quit for health reasons more than anything. My dr's have told me with my blood clots and smoking it's like pouring fuel on an all ready burning fire. If I'm making something I don't smoke, because my studio is smoke free. But if I'm out of there I'm lighting up, a lot. So I shall TRY to quit.

4.- Create more. I love this one and it will be the easiest. I'm going to focus more on my shops and making things. I love creating and I will do it more.

5.-Dedicate more time to advertising. This may sound lame, but yesterday I made my first 125x125 ad. WOO HOO! I couldn't figure it out. I found a free banner maked on the web and finally made an ad. But, not the banner maker isn't working properly and I'm stuck with 1 pretty good ad and 1 not so good ad. Lol. Any and all tips are welcome. :)

6.- Go to church more. I love God and going to church, but I don't go like I should. So, this year I shall change that. I will TRY to go every Sunday and I want to participate and organize more events for our church.

I think that's all. That's enough. I really am going to try to make all of this work. To be honest, I think the one I will fail at is to quit smoking. I don't think I'm ready to quit, but I will make an effort to try. What are your resolutions and how do you make it work? Share them!

Last Minute Handmade Gift Idea- Moss Terrarium

Did you forget Aunt Sally or Great-Auntie Stella? No problem! This quick, easy, and almost FREE Christmas gift is great for a last minute gift. It's also not a bad idea to make a few extra gifts for someone you may have forgotten, but don't recall or someone decides to bring their neighbor along to your holiday festivities. You all know during the holidays you can never tell what could happen especially with those out of town relatives who tend to do the craziest things. Have fun and happy creating! Put a little handmade in someone's life this holiday season!

Terrariums are easy and VERY inexpensive since all of your materials other than the container can be found in nature. I found the tall apothecary jar at a local thrift store for $1 and the other is just a small canning jar I had around the house.

To create a terrarium you will need the following materials:
1. jar
2. small pebbles (just enough to cover the bottom of the jar)
3. soil
4. moss

First, make sure your jar is clean and dry. Loosely place the pebbles in the bottom of the jar, careful not to chunk them in and break something. Make sure your pebbles cover the bottom of the jar, but aren't layered too thick. Next, place about an 1/2"-1" of soil on top of the pebbles. All that is left to do now is to place your moss on top of the the soil. You can layer your moss and tuck smaller pieces into the cracks of the larger pieces. Just experiment with it and decide how you like it. You can also add small things like tiny ferns, just pick one by the root and stick it in a crack around the moss so it's in the soil. You can also add cute miniatures if you can find some or have any on hand. These give the terrariums a sweet little feel.

Caring for your terrarium- Ok you don't have to have a green thumb to keep this a live. Simply water once every week or so with a SMALL amount of water such as a 1/2 tea spoon full. Place the lid on and watch it thrive. If there is a lot of condensation on the inside of the jar then it's probably to damp. Take the top off and let it breathe a little until some of the condensation has gone away. A little condensation is a great thing, it means your terrarium is happy! Have fun with this and ENJOY!

Everyone's door is not complete during the holiday season (or any other season if you're like me) without a wreath. Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Oh, how I love the holiday season. Seeing family that you don't get to see all the time, good food, giving (and receiving) gifts, shopping, decorating, and the craziness of it all! Today we went out shopping for a new Christmas tree. We decided on going non-traditional and getting a white tree. Not to mention, it was pre-lit and on SALE. I can never say no to a sale. Sorry. We also bought new, brightly colored ornaments, ranging in color from lime green to red to silver to bright blue to hot pink and purple. I had to take pictures so everyone else could join in on the joy of our new Christmas tree. So here it is!

Isn't it gorgeous? I think so. I love bright and fun colors and this is definitely both. This tree is so me!!

I had to throw these other two photos in. This is a shabby little shelf in our bathroom. I hung 3 silver snowflakes from it to give it a little holiday cheer. I enjoy seeing holiday reminders around the home. It reminds not only us, but our guest as well that the holiday season has arrived. It is upon us!

Since the set of ornaments I purchased was packed fulll or ornaments I took out a few and decked the lampshade. I thought this coordinated well with the tree and sort of tied the look together.

This is gorgeous set with the beautiful blue and white coordinating so well together. I don't think anyone would be hiding these in their cabinets with the "other" dishes. Instead they would be best displayed for everyone to see.

This Weeks Thrift Store Finds

Ahh, how I love thrift shopping. I think I'm addicted, seriously! I have actually stumbled upon some new thrift stores while on my way to the ones I am familiar with. I so often find myself asking "who gave this away?". Well, as the saying goes, one mans trash is another mans treasure. Only in this case it's WOman. Here's what I've found recently! Have fun looking and show me what you've found thrift shopping.
I found this awesome little compote at a Goodwill store that I so often frequent. It's a vintage milk glass compote by E.O. Brody. It has an amazing texture that is unique and not often seen on other milk glass items. I paid only $3.oo for this one.

I love pyrex and I don't come across it that often. So, imagine how I felt when I stumbled upon this petite pyrex bowl still intact with it's lid. I didn't know what I would use it for or if I ever would use it and I didn't care. I just knew I had to have it. I found this at a local Salvation Army and I paid $1.50 for it!

Milk glass is obviously as much of an obsession of mine as much as thrift shopping is. I was overly excited to find this vintage milk glass lamp. I haven't changed the shade yet, but I plan to do so soon. I found this at a Wing's of Life thrift store for $3.00.

I'm not sure who the maker of these sweet little saucers are, but he/she needs to be complimented. The blue color is so amazing on these. They are milk glass and have a silver trim on the inside and outside of the blue. There is a partial stamp on the bottom of one, but it isn't visible enough to identify a maker. I found these at my local Salvation Army for $.75 each.

I love chat on Etsy. The conversation is good, the people are cool, promo's are often given, and best of all you can browse great shops. While recently in the Etsy chat room (actually I'm in it right at this moment) I found some awesome items that are sure to tickle your fancy. Isn't this one hot little apron? It has an aweseome tutu look on the front and looks like a body suit on the top. I love it! This along with other aprons and tutu's can be found in the shop of georgiamarbles on Etsy.

This awesome milk glass punch bowl set and vintage apple brooch can be found in the shop of CarriersCozyCottage on Etsy. Her shop is full of vintage housewares, costume jewelry, linens, and so much more. Go by her shop and show some love.

Ok, so by now you know I'm a sucker for milk glass. This is one of the prettiest milk glass bowls I've ever seen. I love how it sort of fades from milk glass to clear. This and more vintage housewares and other vintage items can be found in the Etsy shop of reprise.

These are absolutley precious. These tiny babies are hand crafted from polymer clay by the Etsy artist TenderHeartBabies. Her shop is full of so many sweet babies like these. She even makes Christmas ornaments featuring these precious babies!

We have finally moved in our new house!

I am so ecstatic. We are finally in our new home and it feels great. The trailer was all right for starting out, but owning a real house feels amazing. We have had so much fun with painting, decorating, and every thing in between. Moving was horrible! I had no clue we had so much stuff. I don't know where it all came from. Well, I do, but I didn't realize there was so much. I'm almost done unpacking, but I'm still trying to figure out where I want things. My parents bought us the best housewarming gift ever! They bought us a micro suede couch that completely reclines. We love it. I'm on one end now and Tony is on the other sleeping away. Our neighbors are great. One actually came over with the best homemade blueberry pie to welcome us. I was so excited, I didn't know people still did that and I am thankful that I am neighbor's with someone so nice. I haven't taken my after photos yet, but I will try and do that tomorrow. But for now I must go and catch up on some much needed rest.

This Weeks Thrift Store Finds

I found some great items this week at thrift stores and antique shops. These buys are some of the best I have yet to find. If you haven't been to a thrift or antique store in a while you should make a run for it. They have awesome things and it's always at a great price. Here's what I found this week (and the week isn't even over)!

I found this sweet little vintage brass lamp at a Goodwill store. The leaf design of the base and the shape of the milk glass shade give the impression of a ready to pick flower. I got this for $2 and it works! It still has it's original wiring, but I will probably have it rewired so I don't have to worry about burning the house down when it's on. :)

In one of my older post titled "My Wish List" you may have remembered seeing the tall milk glass compote with the tear drop pattern. Well, guess what? No, I didn't buy it online. I found it along with the smaller lace edge milk glass bowl at another Goodwill store. I was in total shock when I walked through the door and they were the first things I laid eyes on. I paid $3 for the larger one and $2 for the smaller one. What a deal, only $5 for the both of them!

I found this awesome milk glass bubble bowl at a local antique store. Along with this, I also bought a smaller lace edge bowl similar to the one shown above this bowl. This bowl cost me only $1, that's right, $1! I know, I know. I'm on a roll. But look below!

Isn't this awesome?!?!? I had seen this at a Salvation Army about a week ago and it was priced at $100. Since I am shopping on a budget I decided that was more than I wanted to spend I went the other way. Well, you can imagine how shocked I was when I returned yesterday to find it marked down to $40. I couldn't leave it and I didn't! While it is beautiful like it is, I'm going to put a fresh coat of paint on it to brighten it up. I'm also going to add glass knobs and pulls to give it sweet cottage feel. I will post pics as soon as it is complete.

This is the coolest rocking chair in the whole world! This is a vintage bentwood rocker. I don't know a lot about the maker it just says "Made in Poland". Now, lets play guess the price. Lol! Was your guess $50 or even $100? Too high! My mom bought this for me and she paid only $15 for it the same Salvation Army where we purchased the dresser.

By now you should be itching with excitement about going thrift shopping. So run, don't walk, to your local thrift store and show me your finds!

Recent vintage finds!

As you all probably know by now, I have an obsession with anything vintage. I love it and I can't help it, nor do I want to. It started when I was about 10. My aunt and uncle took me with them to an antique auction and I was amazed. There were all these old things from small bottles to huge gorgeous furniture. It was there that a love was born. A love for the old, for things with history, style, beauty, and most of all a story. Everything old has a story. Here are my recent vintage finds.

Along with the rest of my finds below I found these at my local Salvation Army. They are by Corelle and I fell in love with them. I love the simple design and the touch of color around the rims. I only paid $.25 a piece for these. It was a buy I could not pass up. I had originally purchased them to create pedestal plates that I sell in my Etsy shop, She's Chic Boutique, but I've decided to keep them for my personal collection.These cups were another great find. They are vintage coffee cups also by Corelle. They are very heavy which is an added bonus. The gray floral detail gives them a very classy look. I also paid only $.25 a piece for these. They are a great addition to my collection of vintage housewares that I plan to display in a large hutch in the dining room of our new home.

These bowls are my favorite recent find. They are milkglass cereal or soup bowls. The one with the handle is by Glasbake and the other has no markings. They make great additions to my collection and I will treasure them forever. I paid $.5o a piece for these and that was a $1.00 well spent!

The Salvation Army is a great place to find deals and also give back to others. They provide help to people in over 110 countries. Visit a store in your area to find some neat things or better yet, to make a donation of items you no longer need or a donation of money. I also recycle with them. They are often in need of plstic or paper bags to place the items in when someone purchases them. Save some grocery bags and drop them off. Also, if you donate something with monetary value they will give you a tax write-off to use when you file your taxes. There are so many benefits to both you and others when you shop at The Salvation Army, so find one near you and check it out!

Wish List

There are so many fabulous things in the world of home decor. Tony and I are only a few short weeks from closing on our new home. I am so excited! I mean I am overly ecstatic! The house has 3 bedrooms, 1 bath (I know that sucks), a large living room, a nice size kitchen, a large dining room, and a screened in back porch, as well as a front porch. It's a 1958 brick ranch home. I want to incorporate a lot of vintage feel in the house. I know for sure I'm doing the bathroom in a vintage/cottage feel complete with a shabby chic chandelier and my office/studio room is also going to be done in the same style. Both will be done in light blue and white. So, here are some things I am lusting over right now!

I am in love with this coverlet from JCPenny ! Not only am I in love with it, it is my most likely choice. I love the floral and scroll design and the scalloped edges add a beautiful touch to an all ready gorgeous coverlet.

I love this set of matching glass drawer knobs and pulls from The Home Depot. I plan to use these in the bathroom and possibly in the bedroom as well. They are too lovely to pass up

I love these white, vintage, hobnail table lamps from thecherrychic on Etsy. They would be PERFECT in my office/studio room on the vintge windows I am converting into bedside tables.

I also love this vintage milkglass compote bowl. It is VERY high on my wish list. I found this lovely bowl in the shop ACollectibleCachet on Etsy.

This is only a smidget of my wish list, but it gives you a great idea of the look I'm going for. As soon as the keys to our new house are in our hands I will be taking pictures so I can do before and after pics of all the rooms. Look for it soon!

No matter what your style is, jewelrybyallison has something for you. While in Etsy chat I was asking for ideas on what to feature this week, when lo and behold, jewelrybeallison suggest I feature her. When I went into her shop I was in disbelief. She has some of the most amazing jewelry designs ever. These designs are not your simple, typical, everyday designs. They are much, much more than that. The first thing to catch my eye was the Robin's Egg Charm Necklace, it is from her Lost and Found Collection. Then there is the Turquoise Butterfly Braclet and the Beginning of Fall Charm Necklace, both from the Natural Elegance Collection. This collection is filled with gorgeous jewelry. Last, but certainly not least, her Wildflower Collection. Who doesn't love flowers? I certainly do, these flowers are in full bloom all year long. Below I asked jewelrybyallison a few questions so I could better get to know her.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and how you began making jewelry.
When I was younger I loved any crafty thing I could get my hands on. My grandmother gave me a few broken necklaces and I re-strung them to make new jewelry. I still love to use pieces of old jewelry in my work today.

2. Who is your target audience?
I have a few lines of jewelry to appeal to different audiences. There is the Lost and Found Collection for those who appreciate the beauty of vintage and the mixture of old with new, the Natural Elegance Collection for those who appreciate the beauty of gemstones, and the Wildflower collection for those who like nature inspired jewelry, colorful and a bit whimsical.

3.What inspires you?
I have recently gotten married, so I would have to say that there is a bit of romance in my latest work.

4. What advice would you give someone who wants to begin designing jewelry?
It is so important to find your own style. Think about what inspires you and what would make each piece truly your own. Don't just make beautiful jewelry, make beautiful jewelry that you would actually wear.

Recycle Tip Of The Week: Handmade Envelopes

I love this idea and I think you will too! Most of us use envelopes often and why not mail a letter in style? No worries, now you can. To make envelopes like the ones I have made above you will need the following items:

1. glue stick
2. pen or pencil
3. standard envelope
4. your choice of paper (think old magazines, card stock you will never use, old calender pictures, paper bags, etc;) Reduce, reuse, and recycle!

First, you will need to take a part the envelope. Envelopes will come a part fairly easy, just try not tear it. Unfold it completely. Next, take the paper you will be using to make your envelope and lay it on a flat surface. Take the unfolded envelope and position it on the paper until it fits completely (you may have to turn it to make it cover the paper). Now take your pen/pencil and trace around the edges of the unfolded envelope until you have drawn the entire shape on the paper. Now, fold your paper just as the envelope was folded. Fold the edges, then the bottom, then your top flap. All you have to do now is take the glue stick and run it along the edges of the bottom flap and lay it over the 2 side flaps so that the bottom flap is over the side flaps. Let it dry and VOILA! You now have your very own envelope! To seal it you can either glue it or put an envelope sealer on it. If you have any questions please feel free to comment and ask them.

Recent thrift store and FREE finds!!

Ahh, who doesn't love a cheap find? I know I certainly do. I wanted to share with everyone some of my recent thrift store and free finds. I know your wondering about the free finds. Well, under each picture I will explain all about where and how I found these awesome treasures. ENJOY!

First is this old window pane. This was one of my free finds! While at the house of a friend of Tony's I noticed this laying against the side of the house. I asked what they planned to do with it and they said they had no use for it and that I could have it if I wanted it. So, I got it. I haven't decided what I will do with it yet, but I've thought about either getting some stained glass window panes or displaying pictures behind the panes. What ever I decide to do I will be sure to share!

I purchased this awesome bowl at my local thrift store for only $2.00! I loved the detail of the lines and the green color that has somewhat of an old look to it. I have no idea who made this bowl. On the bottom it simply has "patty" written in it. I'm almost certain it was hand made and it's too bad I don't know who to give credit to. Right now I have it sitting on the counter in my kitchen with come fruit in it. Thanks Patty, who ever and where ever you are!

This vintage tea pot and sugar cup were the second of my free finds. The same friend who had the window also had these. They were sitting outside on a table and were full of water from a few days of continous rain showers. I tried cleaning them with a silver cloth, but it didn't do much good. I will try some other things, but it they don't come clean it's ok. I love them just the way they are and I find lots of beauty in their detail. They were made by F.B. Rogers Silver Company.This is a gorgeous canvas painting that I was very luck to have found. It is still in it's original packaging and I think it came from Target, but I couldn't find anything on their site about it. Now, guess how much I paid for it. It's big by the way, about 3 feet tall. I paid only $4 for this! I purchased it a closeout type store. It has no defects other than some of the paper on the back of it is torn, that's it! The artist is unknown, but whomever he/she is they are very talented. I plan to use this in our new house in the living room. I'm going to do the living room in warm, neuteral colors with the brick-red color as an accent.

I have composed a list and pictures of some of my favorite items available exclusively on Etsy.

First is this amazingly gorgeous pair of earings from TheTopCat. They are captivating and have such a romantic feel to them. Wouldn't they be the perfect addition to your little black dress?

This outfit, The GiGi Bow Set In Midwest Modern, is absolutely adorable. It looks like something that you would pay hundreds of dollars for at an upscale Hollywood boutique. But it's much more. It's handmade with more love than any hundred dollar outfit you will ever find. This outfit and simmilar ones can be found in the etsy shop georgiagracedesigns.
This gorgeous dress caught my eye. Was it the plunging v neck or the beautiful cornflower blue? I'm not sure, but I love it. This dress and more can be found in the AvaAmin shop on Etsy.

Ahhh, wall decals. Decals of any sorts are abundant on Etsy. Here I picked 3 of my favorites. The first, The Crystal Chandelier Wall Decal is by singlestonestudios and I love how it is featured on the yellow wall behind a cool couch. The second, Sophia- birds on a branch decal, by Elephannie is so airy and fresh feeling and would be perfect in any room. Last, but most certainly not least, the End Table decal by BadassCustomDecals is amazing! It is perfect for smaller rooms that need "something", but there's no room. Well your in luck, as long as you have walls that is!

I hope you enjoyed some of my favorite etsy picks. Of course, I have more. But really there's no room for them all. I mean there is, but I don't think I will take up that much space! If you've never been to Etsy don't walk, but put on your virtual world shoes and RUN to one of these great shops today. Etsy is dif. from other online shopping places, the things here are handmade from the heart, or vintage and sometimes there's only one of an item, so if you like it, love it, want it, you better grab it!

You and Promoting

I have seen so many people ask "How do I promote my shop?" Well, it is very simple. I have learned that different places draw different crowds. You may offer something that would appeal to both a young and older audience, but how are you going to get the older audience if your only promoting on myspace? Here are some great ways to promote your shop/shops.

Myspace- Myspace is ok, I have had some people tell me they found me on myspace. But, myspace is going to reach a younger audience. Myspace has groups, search groups and find those that would have members interested in what you offer. And be sure to put your Etsy mini on your myspace page.

Flickr- Flickr is great for promoting. It is filled with tons of groups. But, be safe. Flickr does not allow you to put links to your etsy shop anywhere other than your personal profile.

Yahoo Groups- There are tons of yahoo groups. Like any other groups, search and join groups that your items would apeal to, but don't jump right in and begin promoting. Let people know who you are, otherwise you may be considered spam. Once again, play it safe.

IndiePublic- I love IndiePublic. It is a great place to meet other artist and also promote your work. Search the groups and join those you fit in. Another tip is, if you search "buyer" under members you will find people who are just shoppers as well as those who may want to purchase wholesale. Don't nag them, simply add them as a friend and welcome them to Indie!

Free Directories- There are a lot of yellow page type sites on the internet that you can advertise in for free. Just search the net for "free advertising" and you will be shocked with what you find.

Etsy- Duh. A lot of people don't take advatage of what all Etsy has to offer. My first sale came from chat in Etsy. Get active in the forums. There are a lot of people on Etsy! Your just a needle in a haystack, but if you get avtive more people are likely to find you. Don't be shy, if your having a sale, post it in the promotion forum and bump it back up often so people see it.

Teams- Teams are great! Find a team you fit in and join. Most teams have a website and that means more spotlight for you. Not only are teams a great way to promote, but you will be conecting with people who have something in common with you. Shout out to my wonderful team- Southeastern US Etsy!!!
